Antonio Mancini e Vincenzo Gemito
Exhibition curated by Manuel Carrera, Fernando Mazzocca, Carlo Sisi and Isabella Valente hosted at the Museo dell'Ottocento Fondazione Di Persio - Pallotta in Pescara.
The exhibition proposes for the first time a comparison between the painter Antonio Mancini (Rome, 1852-1930) and the sculptor Vincenzo Gemito (Naples, 1852-1929), among the most original and interesting characters of the artistic panorama in Italy and Europe between the second half of the 19th century and the first decades of the 20th century. Two masterpieces by Vincenzo Gemito will temporarily leave the storerooms of the Galleria d'Arte Moderna to become part of the exhibition, which consists of 140 works: the Ritratto di Anna Gemito (1886, terracotta, inv. AM 939), a valuable terracotta bust inspired by ancient statuary, and the disegno Donna seduta con cesto di frutta - Anna (1903, pencil on paper, inv. AM 953).
Both works depict Anna, the artist's second wife and his muse.
