"La poesia ti guarda". Omaggio al Gruppo 70 (1963-2023)
On 24 May 1963, the conference 'Art and Communication' opened in Florence at the Forte del Belvedere, which is considered by scholars to be the official founding act of Group 70.
Sixty years after that event, the Galleria d'Arte Moderna is organising a tribute-exhibition for those artists who determined its birth.
Gruppo 70 is, in fact, the artistic association that interprets the international movement of visual poetry in a more complete and coherent manner in the Italian sphere. Among the neo-avant-gardes, it was the one that most had a hybrid and multilingual character, situating itself in a suggestive 'middle ground' between writing and the image, between the visual arts and poetry. Art was understood and problematised more generally as part of the complex system of communication.
On the occasion of this anniversary, a tribute is paid to the main exponents of the group - Ketty La Rocca, Lucia Marcucci, Eugenio Miccini, Luciano Ori, Lamberto Pignotti, and also Roberto Malquori and Michele Perfetti - highlighting the different aesthetic and formal declinations of visual poetry.
The works, for the most part unpublished and/or little known to the general public, come from the collection of the Galleria d'Arte Moderna, from the Carlo Palli Archive in Prato, one of Italy's main collections of visual poetry, from the MART in Rovereto, from the Lamberto Pignotti Archive in Rome, from the Bonotto Foundation in Colceresa (VI) and from other prestigious private collections.
Accompanying the exhibition are sound poems and cinepoems, artist's books and documents that illustrate in various ways the theoretical premises, poetic reasons and expressive outcomes of Gruppo 70.
The exhibition, curated by Daniela Vasta, is realised in collaboration with Achivio Carlo Palli, Archivio Lamberto Pignotti and Fondazione Bonotto.
The exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue published by De Luca Editori d'Arte, with critical contributions by Daniela Vasta, Patrizio Peterlini and Lucilla Saccà, an unpublished interview with Lamberto Pignotti edited by Claudio Crescentini, and bio-bibliographical apparatus by Elena Rosica.
